On Tuesday I went to go help out with Amber's fundraising night for ZimSEF. It was held at the Gazebo Wine Garden in Elizabeth Bay which is a gorgeous little terrace with twinkly lights and pretty little tables and chairs dotted about the place.
I didn't manage to get any decent photos as it was quite dark and I spent too much time talking, but here are some from the interweb:
I haven't seen the Maidens in ages and it was good to be able to catch up with them all and return the favour and help Amber out. I teamed up with the other four raffle ticket ladies, donned a stripy apron and armed myself with a book of raffle tickets and spent the evening selling tickets to everyone. Gus was doing the auction and had two friends doing a little acoustic set on guitar and singing, and then a friend who's a photographer taking photos to document the night. Basically, it was just an evening of drinking wine and meeting lots of people. As soon as they heard my accent everyone wanted to know who I was and how I was connect with Amber (the link is that my step-gran's father is her sister's godfather... some I'm a kind of distant goddaughter, or something...!?) and were super friendly, telling me loads of places I still need to go in Sydney. I also finally met Susan Lankaster, who's Amber's sister and is very close with my step-gran, and she's offered to take me out for lunch to somewhere super nice on my birthday on Monday.
The night went so well and loads of money was raised and everyone had such a good time. I stayed after to help everyone clear up and then hopped in a taxi home. Congrats to Amber for all her hard work to put on such a good evening.
