For Thursday, my internship gave me two tickets to go the Absolut Vodka's launch of their new limited edition bottle, Absolut Originality. To launch the new bottle, they hold events called 'The Blue Room' all over the world and this was their one for Sydney. I dragged Goose along to go have a snoop and waft about with lots of hipsters and drink lots of free vodka.
Goose being slow to get ready
We turned up to Good God Small Club where it was being hosted, said our names on the door and entered in through a big bottle shaped door.
Downstairs it was like a strange jungle-cave-type-thing and the room was packed with lots of very trendy looking people milling about being trendy and talking about trendy things. They had waitresses walking about with the most amazing fluffy blue earrings on, handing out free drinks and strange blue nibbles. There were three options for the drinks, one was a simple vodka, soda, lime, the next was a bizarre vodka, absinthe and elderflower and the last was a kind of apple-y one. All pretty good though, and they had lots of blue things floating about in them, like some blue syrup stuff and strange little blue squidgey pearls (one of which I decided to eat and then very quickly which I hadn't.... definitely only there for decoration, whoops).
Goose being cute and trendy
Goose and I got a bit carried away....
The whole new launch of the new bottle was based around a campaign unique to Australia which called for 'budding creatives' to submit ideas and compete for the chance to collaborate with artists including sculptor Dion Hortsmans, fashion designer Emma Mulholland, audiovisual DJ Sampology and digital artist Jimmy McGilchrist. They then picked some winners who helped design the launch and the new bottle. Here's a little vid about the whole idea..... (I can't seem to embed it so just click on that below).
Goose and I decided to scrap the trendy vibe and started taking two drinks at once from the bar and got very involved with the nibbles. They had little chips with blue spicy stuff on them, mini chicken burgers, tiny little sausages with blue relish, blue ice cream cookie sandwiches.... EVERYTHING was blue.
Later on in the evening a new club area opened up and everyone went in to go and groove away to some trendy music. They had big (blue) screens up with lots of (blue) animations and a (blue) dj doing his thaaang.
Someone trendy messaging their trendy friends to tell them about the trendy things they're doing
We sat and drank and danced and had a nice girly catch up for a few hours, and all for free! It was a slightly bizarre crowd there but we still had fun and enjoyed the free drinks. I could get used to being invited to free events....!
